Retired General Yossi Bachar Joins Religious Zionism Party

Retired Major General Yossi Bachar, a resident of Kibbutz Be'eri and a hero of the October 7th battles, has joined the Religious Zionism party's list for the upcoming 26th Knesset. Party chairman and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced the decision, highlighting Bachar's extensive military career, which included commanding the Gaza Division, the Galilee Formation, and the Paratroopers Brigade.

Bachar's mother, Guila, was murdered by Hamas terrorists on October 7th. On that day, Bachar left his home in Be'eri and fought for hours against Hamas operatives, helping to defend the kibbutz residents. Later in the war, he served as deputy commander of the Southern Command, participating in the planning and command of operations in the Gaza Strip.

Smotrich praised Bachar as a "hero of Israel," emphasizing his understanding of the importance of settlement for Israel's security and his strong national spirit. "Yossi brings with him rich security experience, proven leadership, and a love for the land. His joining is great news for Religious Zionism and the State of Israel. We are connecting the past and Be'eri and building Israel's security belt," Smotrich stated.

Bachar expressed his motivation for joining the political arena, stating, "After decades of military service for Israel's security, and especially since the disaster of October 7th, I am called today to continue the national mission in the public sphere as well." He added that he joins Religious Zionism out of deep belief in the movement's path and Smotrich's leadership, citing their commitment to strengthening Israel's security and settlement. Bachar aims to ensure that no Israeli family experiences what his family endured in Be'eri on October 7th.
