Retired General Yossi Bachar Joins Religious Zionism Party

Retired Major General Yossi Bachar, who fought Hamas terrorists in Kibbutz Be'eri on October 7th, has joined the Religious Zionism party list. This move comes after Ofer Winter, another prominent figure, decided to run independently. Bachar, a decorated former commander of various IDF units including the Gaza Division and the Paratroopers Brigade, was instrumental in defending Be'eri during the initial Hamas assault.

During the subsequent war in Gaza, Bachar served as deputy commander of the Southern Command, participating in planning and commanding operations. Religious Zionism leader Bezalel Smotrich praised Bachar as a "hero of Israel," emphasizing his commitment to settlement and security, and highlighting his extensive military experience and leadership.

Smotrich stated that Bachar's addition is "great news for Religious Zionism and the State of Israel," adding, "We are connecting Kedumim and Be'eri and building Israel's security belt." Bachar himself expressed his belief in the party's path and Smotrich's leadership, citing their commitment to Israel's security and the future of the country. He stated his motivation for joining is to ensure no Israeli family endures what his family experienced in Be'eri on October 7th.
