Retired General Yossi Bachar Joins Smotrich's Religious Zionism Party

Retired Major General Yossi Bachar, a prominent figure in the Israeli military and a resident of Kibbutz Be'eri, has joined the Religious Zionism party led by Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich. Bachar, who held senior command positions including commander of the Gaza Division and commander of the Paratroopers Brigade, was a key defender of his kibbutz during the Hamas attack on October 7th. He also served as deputy commander of the Southern Command during the subsequent war in Gaza.

Smotrich hailed Bachar as a "hero of Israel," emphasizing his deep understanding of the importance of settlement for national security and his strong national spirit. He stated that Bachar's experience, leadership, and love for the land would be a significant asset to the party and the country, linking "Kedumim and Be'eri" to build Israel's security buffer.

Bachar explained his decision to enter public service after decades in the military, particularly after the trauma of October 7th. He expressed his belief in the Religious Zionism movement's path and Smotrich's leadership, citing their commitment to strengthening Israel's security and settlements. Bachar stated his goal is to ensure no Israeli family endures the suffering his own family experienced at Be'eri on October 7th.
