Wounded IDF Reservist Elisha Medan Added to Likud Knesset List

The Likud party announced on Tuesday that Elisha Medan, a reservist soldier who lost both legs and was critically wounded fighting in Gaza, will be placed on the party's list for the upcoming 26th Knesset elections. Medan, a founder of the Avigail settlement in the Hebron Hills, was severely injured during an operation in Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza, where four of his comrades were killed. Following his injury, doctors amputated both his legs, initiating a lengthy rehabilitation process.

Medan has become a symbol of resilience and determination, continuing to engage in public life despite his severe injuries. He has worked to support other wounded soldiers and civilians, promoting messages of hope and patriotism. On Israel's Independence Day in 2025, he was chosen to light the "Torch of Healing and Rehabilitation" at the state ceremony on Mount Herzl. He has received multiple commendations for his bravery and dedication.

The Likud stated that Medan's personal story embodies the spirit of Israeli soldiers and the nation's capacity to overcome immense challenges, rebuild, and continue developing the country. "Elisha Medan embodies values of dedication, responsibility, love of the land, and camaraderie. His journey, from the battlefield to his rehabilitation, is living proof of the Israeli spirit," the party said in its announcement, wishing him success.

Minister Miki Zohar praised Prime Minister Netanyahu for including Medan, calling him a "hero of Israel" and stating that the Likud is a home for everyone. Deputy Minister Almog Cohen welcomed Medan, calling him a "hero of Israel" and a symbol of revival for a generation of fighters. He added that Medan's inclusion would help advocate for the needs of wounded IDF soldiers in the Knesset.

This move comes as Oren Dobronsky, who was slated for the 11th spot on the list, announced he would not run for a Knesset seat but would instead wait for a senior ministerial position after the elections. Dobronsky stated that while the Prime Minister had offered him a spot in the top ten and a role as Minister for AI Affairs, he preferred to serve as a professional minister where he could best utilize his experience.
