Wounded Reservist, Severely Injured in Gaza, Gets Top Spot on Likud List
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has decided to reserve a high spot on the Likud party's Knesset list for Elisha Medan, a reservist fighter and co-founder of the Avigail settlement in the Hebron region. Medan was critically wounded during operational activity in Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza, an incident in which four of his comrades were killed and he lost both his legs.
Medan is slated to be placed at the 11th position on the Likud list for the upcoming Knesset elections. He is married with six children and is the son of Rabbi Yaakov Medan, head of the Har Etzion Hesder Yeshiva in Alon Shvut.
Since his injury, Medan has undergone an extensive rehabilitation process. During this time, he has frequently shared his personal story with soldiers, young people, and communities across Israel, focusing on overcoming his injury and conveying messages of hope, faith, and love for the land.
On Israel's last Independence Day, he was chosen to light the Torch of Healing and Rehabilitation. The Likud party emphasized Medan's public activism and his recovery story following the severe injury, stating that he embodies values of dedication, responsibility, love for the land, and camaraderie. The party added that his life story reflects the spirit of Israeli soldiers and the resilience of Israeli society.
