IDF Seizes Rocket, Arrests Hamas Operatives in West Bank Raid

Israeli security forces discovered a homemade rocket in the West Bank village of Akaba early Sunday, September 6. The unexploded rocket, described as a long pipe without a warhead, was found without a launcher. During the operation, which was led by the Shin Bet security agency with the participation of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Yamam counter-terrorism unit, ten Hamas operatives were arrested. Authorities stated the detainees were involved in planning attacks and establishing terrorist infrastructure in the village.

During searches, one of the arrested individuals led soldiers to a weapons cache containing an M16 rifle and explosives. Bomb disposal experts from the Judea and Samaria Border Police neutralized and destroyed the rocket, weapons, and explosives. The operation followed a period of intelligence gathering by the Shin Bet and was initiated due to suitable operational conditions and intelligence warnings.

Security officials warned of a potential surge in terror attacks beyond the "green line" (Israel proper), despite a current sense of relative calm. They noted that the IDF is operating at its maximum capacity to prevent escalation, a situation complicated by rising tensions around Israeli settlements and international diplomatic pressure. The security system highlighted that organized groups, not just lone individuals, are now involved in planning attacks.

This incident follows a separate operation on September 3, where the IDF's Duvdevan unit arrested five operatives planning an imminent attack. They were apprehended shortly after soldiers entered the village, and were found with M16 rifles, magazines, and tactical vests. These operatives were reportedly planning to carry out a shooting attack in an Israeli locality at dawn.

In related security developments, explosive devices were found in the Askar refugee camp, and an intensive search is underway near Ramallah for an armed terrorist preparing an attack. With elections approaching in both the Palestinian Authority and Israel, and a noticeable increase in terror activity, the IDF is enhancing its readiness for the upcoming autumn holidays. At least two additional battalions are being deployed to Judea and Samaria starting with Rosh Hashanah (September 11-13). Security officials confirmed the deployment of these additional forces, stating that the Chief of Staff will allocate all necessary resources to bolster preparedness for potential escalation.
