IDF Foils Hamas Terror Plot, Seizes Rocket and Weapons in West Bank Raid

Israeli security forces discovered an improvised rocket and a cache of weapons during a counter-terrorism operation in the West Bank village of Aqaba, located in the Samaria region. The operation, conducted overnight between Saturday and Sunday, was carried out by the elite Yamam counter-terrorism unit, with intelligence from the Shin Bet and support from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

The forces apprehended ten Hamas operatives who were allegedly involved in advancing terror plans and organizing terror activities in the village. During searches, the Yamam unit found the unlaunched rocket, described as a long pipe without a warhead, and without a launcher. One of the detainees, under interrogation by IDF soldiers, revealed the location of hidden weapons, including an M16 rifle and explosives intended for making bombs.

Both the rocket and the seized weaponry were neutralized and destroyed on-site by bomb disposal experts. A joint statement from the police, IDF, and Shin Bet emphasized that security forces will continue proactive operations to thwart terror infrastructure in Judea and Samaria to ensure the safety of Israeli residents.

The operation followed months of intensive intelligence gathering by the Shin Bet and was launched after operational conditions matured. Security officials noted a significant rise in tensions in Judea and Samaria, expressing concern over a potential surge in terror attacks. Despite a current sense of calm, the IDF is reportedly operating at maximum capacity to prevent an impending wave of terror, amid rising tensions around settlements and international diplomatic pressure.

Recent weeks have seen multiple foiled attacks, including the capture of five terrorists armed with M16 rifles who were planning an immediate shooting attack. Explosive devices were also found in the Askkar refugee camp, and a manhunt is underway near Ramallah for an armed gunman. In anticipation of the High Holidays, the IDF is increasing its readiness, with plans to deploy at least two additional battalions and allocate all necessary forces to counter potential escalations.
