Former MK Yoav Segalovitz Joins Arab Party Ra'am, Citing Need for Political Bridge

Former Knesset Member Yoav Segalovitz officially announced his decision to join the United Arab List (Ra'am) party, stating his intention to build a "real political bridge" between Jewish and Arab citizens of Israel. The announcement was made alongside Ra'am Chairman Mansour Abbas.

Segalovitz acknowledged that some may perceive his move as political weakness, but he believes it demonstrates significant strength. He directly challenged the notion that political partnership with Arab parties is impossible after the October 7th Hamas attacks, calling such claims "absurd and false."

In a joint statement, Segalovitz emphasized his desire to create a political connection despite anticipated difficulties, describing the potential bridge as a foundation for future political endeavors involving both Jews and Arabs. He explained that his decision, made after extensive deliberation, was driven by the current social polarization between Jews and Arabs, and his belief that cooperation is possible based on trust, recognition of differences, and a commitment to joint action.

He further stated that he is not joining Ra'am as part of a faction but as an individual. Segalovitz asserted that progress is made by understanding differences, not by seeking similarity, and that the shared goal is to advance Israeli society across various sectors, including combating crime, healthcare, welfare, and planning.

Referencing Israel's Declaration of Independence as his guide, Segalovitz expressed a desire to move beyond past conflicts and differing narratives to build a better future. He contrasted the political system's use of fear with his aim to offer hope, urging people to look for and embrace it.
