Former MK Yoav Segalovitch Joins Arab Islamist Party Ra'am

Former Knesset Member Yoav Segalovitch, previously with the Yesh Atid party, has agreed to join the United Arab List (Ra'am) party led by Mansour Abbas. The two are scheduled to hold a joint press conference on Monday evening to officially announce this "unprecedented move" for a former security official.

Segalovitch, who served as Deputy Minister of Public Security and head of the Police Investigations and Intelligence Department, resigned from the Knesset several weeks ago. He stated his intention to continue public service in a different capacity to improve the country's security and social situation. His move is seen as a significant shift in the political landscape and party alignments.

Ra'am, under Abbas, has been pursuing a strategy of influencing Israeli politics from within the system. Abbas has previously described Arab citizens of Israel as a "bridge to peace" and emphasized the party's goal of impacting policy. The party's recent national conference approved a candidate list that allows for Segalovitch's inclusion, with his specific position to be revealed at the joint announcement.

The impending announcement has already sparked strong reactions. National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir accused Segalovitch's resignation of being a "conspiracy" by the left to enable a future government with the Muslim Brotherhood, alleging a plan where Segalovitch would head the National Security Ministry and Abbas the Negev and Galilee Development Ministry.
