Ex-IDF Soldier Accused of Planning to Join ISIS
A 30-year-old former Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldier, Khamis Suaed from the village of Husniyya in the Galilee, has been indicted for allegedly intending to join the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist group. The indictment, filed on September 2, follows a joint investigation by the Shin Bet and the Galilee Police. According to the indictment submitted to the Haifa Magistrate's Court, Suaed expressed support for ISIS, studied relevant materials, and underwent training to join the group's combat units abroad, as stated in a joint release from the Shin Bet and Israeli Police.
The investigation revealed that Suaed studied training materials on combat, weapons handling, and the manufacturing of rockets and drones for terrorist purposes. He was arrested several weeks ago during a joint operation by the police and Shin Bet. The Haifa District Prosecutor's Office has requested his detention until the end of legal proceedings, along with the indictment.
Shin Bet and police representatives stated they will continue to thwart activities threatening state security and its citizens, including attempts by Israeli citizens to act on behalf of terrorist organizations against Israelis.
