Former IDF Soldier Charged With Attempting to Join ISIS
The Haifa District Prosecutor's Office has indicted Hamis Suaed, a roughly 30-year-old Bedouin resident of the Galilean village of Husnia, on charges of supporting the Islamic State (ISIS) and preparing to join its ranks abroad. The indictment was filed on September 2, 2025, following an investigation by the Israel Police and the Shin Bet security agency. Suaed, who served in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) from 2017 to 2019, allegedly began studying materials on combat, weapons, and the construction of rockets and drones for terrorist purposes in 2023. He was reportedly preparing to join ISIS outside of Israel. Suaed was arrested several weeks prior to the indictment in a joint operation by the central Galilee police unit and the Shin Bet. The prosecution is requesting that he be held in custody until the conclusion of his trial.
