Ex-IDF Soldier Accused of Planning to Join ISIS
The Haifa District Prosecutor's Office has filed an indictment against a 30-year-old man from Al-Husayniya in the Galilee, accusing him of preparing to join the Islamic State (ISIS) and fight abroad. The indictment, submitted to the Haifa Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, charges the suspect with undergoing training or receiving instructions.
According to a joint statement from the police and the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency), the man was arrested in recent weeks. Investigations revealed his support for ISIS and his viewing of training materials related to combat, weapons use, and the manufacturing of rockets and drones.
The indictment states that the accused, who served in the Israeli military between 2017 and 2019, showed increasing interest in ISIS starting in 2023. In 2024, he decided to travel to Syria or Africa to join the organization, beginning to study materials from ISIS officials and save money for this purpose.
In 2026, the suspect allegedly downloaded instructional materials and watched videos on manufacturing rockets and drones, as well as weapons use and military tactics, with the aim of supporting ISIS activities. The prosecution has requested that the suspect be held in custody until the legal proceedings are concluded.
