Ex-IDF Soldier Charged With Attempting to Join ISIS
A 30-year-old resident of the Galilee region, identified as Khamis Suaed from the village of Husnia, is facing charges for attempting to join the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist group. An indictment was filed against him on Wednesday, September 2, at the Haifa Magistrate's Court. Suaed is accused of undergoing military or other training with the intent to engage in terrorist activities.
According to the investigation, Suaed, who served in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) from 2017 to 2019, developed ideological solidarity with ISIS starting in 2023. He allegedly researched combat techniques, weapons use, and the construction of rockets and drones for terrorist purposes, viewing instructional materials and video sermons from ISIS leaders. He also reportedly saved money to facilitate his travel.
Authorities apprehended Suaed in August after he expressed solidarity with the terrorist organization. During interrogation, it was revealed that he planned to travel to Syria or Africa in 2024 to join ISIS militants. The prosecution has requested that his detention be extended until the conclusion of his trial.
The indictment, filed by prosecutor Segev Adler, also states that Suaed downloaded instructions and watched videos in 2024 aimed at aiding the organization's activities.
