Ex-IDF Soldier Charged With Training for ISIS Membership
Prosecutors have filed charges against Khamis Suaed, a 30-year-old resident of the Bedouin village of Hussayna in the Western Galilee, for undergoing training and instruction for terrorist purposes. Suaed allegedly prepared himself to join the Islamic State (ISIS) and fight for the organization abroad.
According to the indictment, from 2023 until his arrest in August, Suaed, who served in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) from 2017 to 2019, showed increasing interest in ISIS and developed ideological identification with the group. In 2024, he decided to travel to Syria or Africa to join ISIS ranks. To achieve this, he watched content and lectures by ISIS leaders and saved money.
During 2026, Suaed downloaded guides and watched videos on the production of missiles and drones, the use of weapons, and military tactics. He was arrested in August. The indictment was filed at the Haifa Magistrate's Court.
