Ex-IDF Soldier Charged with Terror Training for ISIS

A 30-year-old man from the Galilee village of Husniya, Khamis Suaed, has been indicted on charges of training for terrorist purposes. Prosecutors allege Suaed prepared himself to join the Islamic State (ISIS) and fight with the organization abroad. He was arrested in August, and an investigation by the police and Shin Bet revealed he expressed identification with the terror group.

According to the indictment filed by the Haifa District Prosecutor's Office, Suaed, who served in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) between 2017 and 2019, showed increasing interest in ISIS and developed ideological identification with it starting in 2023. In 2024, he decided to travel to Syria or Africa to join the organization, consuming instructional content from its leaders and saving money for the trip.

During 2026, Suaed downloaded guides and watched videos aimed at advancing the organization's activities. The prosecution has requested that his detention be extended until the conclusion of legal proceedings. The charges include training or instructing for terrorist purposes.
