Car Theft Chase in Jerusalem Ends with Suspect Dead and Officer Injured

A dramatic police chase in Jerusalem's Katamon neighborhood early Wednesday ended with the death of a car theft suspect and injuries to a police officer and a civilian. The incident began when police received a report of a stolen vehicle in Katamon. Patrol units from several Jerusalem police stations, including Moriah, Lev HaBira, and Shalem, located the stolen car and attempted to stop it. The suspect refused to comply and fled, driving recklessly against traffic and endangering bystanders and officers.

Police fired at the vehicle's tires to halt the suspect, but he continued fleeing until he crashed into a pole and a civilian car at the At-Tur junction. The collision caused injuries to a police officer and a civilian, both lightly wounded and treated at the scene. The suspect was critically injured and transported to the hospital, where he later died. His identity remains unknown as the police continue investigating the circumstances of the chase and crash.
