Three Killed in Family Feud Violence in East Jerusalem's Silwan Neighborhood

A violent family feud in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan escalated overnight on August 23, 2026, resulting in three deaths. The initial incident involved a deadly shooting during a clash between families, marking the 152nd murder in the Arab community since the start of 2026. Police responded to reports of a violent altercation and found two men severely injured; one died at the hospital, while the other was critically wounded.

Following the initial shooting, tensions intensified with gunfire, fireworks, and Molotov cocktails thrown during the clashes. Border Police forces identified two suspects armed with knives and incendiary devices who posed a direct threat to officers. Police opened fire, killing both suspects on the spot. The police shooting is now under investigation by the Police Investigations Department (Mahash).

Large police forces were deployed to restore order, and the Jerusalem District Commander, Commissioner Avshalom Peled, conducted a situation assessment with officers at the scene. The case is being investigated by the Crime Fighting Unit of the Judea District. The incident highlights ongoing violence and instability in East Jerusalem, particularly within the Arab community, where family disputes frequently lead to deadly outcomes.
