Three Killed in East Jerusalem Amid Family Conflict and Police Shootings
A violent night in East Jerusalem resulted in three deaths over two incidents. The initial shooting occurred in Silwan, where Issam Al-Awar was critically wounded in a family dispute and later died in the hospital. Police launched a murder investigation, suspecting the violence stemmed from an ongoing family feud.
Following the first shooting, tensions escalated as suspects fired firearms, set off fireworks, and threw Molotov cocktails. Police and Border Police forces identified two suspects allegedly endangering officers with knives and incendiary devices. Officers responded with gunfire, killing both suspects on the scene.
The two killed suspects were identified as Khalil Al-Awar, the son of the initially murdered man, and their relative Ahmad Al-Awar. Large police forces were deployed to Silwan, and public order was eventually restored. Jerusalem District Commander Commissioner Avshalom Fled arrived at the scene, praised the officers' response, and held a situation assessment. The murder investigation is being handled by the Crime Fighting Unit of the Kdem Division.
