Young Man Shot Dead in East Jerusalem Amid Rising Violence, Police Intensify Crime Crackdown
Israeli police launched an investigation into a suspected murder in the Silwan neighborhood of East Jerusalem on Tuesday night. A 22-year-old local resident was critically wounded by gunfire and later pronounced dead at the hospital. His brother was also injured lightly and hospitalized. Large police forces secured the scene, collected evidence, and began searching for suspects involved in the shooting.
This incident marks the seventh murder in the past two days. Just the day before, a man in his 30s was fatally shot while sitting in his car in the northern town of Yafia. Police opened a criminal investigation and started searching for suspects there as well, though the victim's identity has not yet been confirmed.
Following these events, Israel Police Commissioner Major General Danni Levi held a special meeting with senior command staff to review the ongoing fight against crime and violence in Arab communities. Intelligence and operational updates were presented, and new measures were discussed to increase pressure on criminal organizations. Levi ordered expanded enforcement activities, including deploying special units to new areas, intensifying weekend operations, and conducting arrest campaigns targeting crime figures.
Levi emphasized the national importance of combating crime in Arab society, stating, "We will act uncompromisingly against criminal organizations, continue to strike them relentlessly, and pursue them until justice is served."
