Tel Aviv's KKL Bridge Closed for Two Weeks for Safety Repairs, Major Traffic Disruptions Expected

Netivei Ayalon announced a two-week closure of the KKL Bridge in Tel Aviv for essential safety and rehabilitation work. The project will begin on the night of Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 23:30, and continue until Friday morning, August 21, at 06:00, during which west-to-east traffic lanes on the bridge will be closed. Left turns from Ayalon South onto the bridge will be prohibited, but right turns and access to Route 20 southbound from the KKL interchange will remain open. Pedestrians will be able to cross safely on the northern part of the bridge.

The second phase starts on the night of Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 23:30, and ends on Friday, August 28, at 06:00, closing the east-to-west lanes on the bridge. Throughout both phases, Ayalon Highway lanes will remain open, though heavy congestion is expected in the area. Detailed traffic arrangements for the second phase will be published closer to its start. Public transportation routes and station locations near the bridge will also be adjusted during the works.

The repairs involve replacing expansion joints, crucial for the bridge's structural integrity and smooth traffic flow, as these joints accommodate movement and temperature changes. The timing in late August was chosen due to typically lighter traffic during the summer holiday period. These works are coordinated with the Tel Aviv Municipality, Ministry of Transport, and police, and will be supervised by traffic inspectors.

This rehabilitation is part of broader infrastructure upgrades along Ayalon Highway, including projects related to the Green Line light rail and interchange improvements. Recent months have seen multiple concurrent projects causing cumulative traffic impacts, such as the June 2026 night closures of Ayalon South between the KKL and Rokach interchanges. The ongoing efforts also include road widening and dedicated public transport lanes to enhance the corridor's capacity and safety.
