IDF Investigates Lebanon Bombing That Killed Two Soldiers Amid Infiltration Fears

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are conducting an investigation into a bomb explosion in southern Lebanon that killed two reservist soldiers and injured four others. The incident occurred during an operation in a village heavily fortified by Hezbollah, which had built extensive underground infrastructure with Iranian support. The IDF is trying to determine whether the bomb was planted by militants trapped inside the village or by an infiltrating cell that entered from nearby areas such as Al Manzouri or the city of Tyre.

The explosion happened as the 28th Battalion of the Paratroopers Brigade was entering a building at the village's northwestern edge, a strategic location overlooking the coastline and Tyre valley. The soldiers were securing the area to support bulldozers demolishing structures identified as terrorist facilities. It remains unclear whether the bomb was remotely detonated by observers or triggered by a tripwire.

A military source told Maariv that the village has not been fully cleared, with many underground and surface structures still requiring investigation and destruction. The IDF is assessing when the explosive device was placed, considering intelligence that Hezbollah had heavily guarded the village like a fortress. The incident raises concerns within the IDF about a possible return to previous hostile dynamics in the region.
