Beitar Jerusalem Denies Fan Misconduct Claims Ahead of Cyprus Match

Ahead of Beitar Jerusalem's match against AEK Larnaca on Thursday at 19:30 in Cyprus, local media reported that some Beitar fans caused property damage in Larnaca's streets, prompting police to disperse them with tear gas. The Cypriot Guardian Sport described the fans' actions as provocative, leading to increased police security measures and warnings for AEK fans to remain cautious.

Beitar Jerusalem strongly denied these allegations, issuing an official statement after speaking with the Larnaca police chief. The club clarified that their fans did not cause any damage, and that tear gas was used solely against AEK fans who attempted to confront Beitar supporters. This was also confirmed by a police representative to UEFA officials.

Separately, at the Radisson Hotel where Beitar staff and some fans are staying, management sent a letter to guests addressing incidents of graffiti and cannabis odor observed on the premises. The letter expressed pride in hosting the team and wished them success in the upcoming match and an easy fast for Tisha B'Av. The disturbances reportedly ceased by the following day.

On the sporting front, coach Almog Cohen is still deciding the starting lineup but has confirmed Eugene Ansah will start. Beitar plans an offensive approach with Yarden Shua and Kalo expected to play alongside Ansah. Omri Atsili might also be included if Cohen opts for a particularly aggressive 4-2-4 formation.
