Police Chase Beitar Jerusalem Fans in Larnaca Ahead of Conference League Match

Ahead of their UEFA Conference League second qualifying round match against AEK Larnaca on July 23, Beitar Jerusalem fans reportedly caused disturbances in the streets of Larnaca, Cyprus. Local Cypriot media reported that the fans damaged property and carried dangerous objects, prompting a large police response including tear gas to disperse the crowd. The police conducted a widespread search to identify and arrest those involved in the unrest. Authorities increased security measures around the AEK Arena and throughout the city to prevent further clashes between the fan groups.

Beitar Jerusalem responded to the reports by denying any damage caused by their supporters. The club stated that after discussions with the Larnaca police chief and UEFA officials, the tear gas was used solely against AEK fans who allegedly initiated the confrontation. The club criticized the media for inaccurately portraying the events and emphasized that no arrests had been made.

The match, scheduled for the evening of July 23, marks Beitar Jerusalem's European season opener. The second leg will take place in Hungary next week. Victory over AEK Larnaca would see Beitar advance to face the winner between Austria Vienna and Liepaja, while defeat would end their European campaign.
