Two Israeli Reservists Killed in Gaza Drone Incident Mourned

Israel is mourning the deaths of two reservist soldiers, Staff Sergeant (Res.) Nadav Kali and Staff Sergeant (Res.) Ofek Moalem, who were killed in a "tragic incident" in northern Gaza on Thursday. Both soldiers were part of the 16th Brigade.

The incident occurred when an explosive drone, reportedly launched towards a Hamas operative, changed course, returned to the Israeli forces' position, and detonated inside a post as they were collecting it. The military has launched an investigation into the circumstances of the event.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his condolences, stating, "Nadav and Ofek were brave reservist fighters who protected Israel's security." He added, "The IDF is investigating the incident, all necessary lessons must be learned and implemented to ensure the safety and security of IDF soldiers."

Other political figures, including Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana and Minister of Diaspora Affairs Amichai Chikli, also offered their condolences. Friends of Kali and Moalem shared heartfelt tributes, remembering them as dedicated soldiers and cherished friends. Moalem, 23, from Jerusalem, was studying mechanical engineering, while Kali was remembered for his strong character and loyalty.

In response to the incident, the IDF Chief of Staff has ordered a temporary halt to operations involving "Bat" type explosive drones and similar devices. A team of experts has been appointed to examine the circumstances and prevent future occurrences.
