Two Reserve Soldiers Killed in Gaza Drone Incident
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced Friday that two reserve soldiers, Nadav Kali, 24, from Har Halutz, and Ofek Moalem, 23, from Jerusalem, were killed during an operational activity in the Gaza Strip. The incident occurred Thursday afternoon when the two soldiers, a squad leader and a sergeant from the 7007th Battalion of the 16th Brigade, were operating a pre-approved drone during a mission.
For reasons yet to be determined, the drone crashed inside an IDF outpost in northern Gaza. The soldiers approached the crashed drone, and it is believed that when they picked it up, it exploded. Both Kali and Moalem were treated at the scene and evacuated to Barzilai Hospital, where they were pronounced dead. No other soldiers were injured in the incident.
Following the event, the IDF has temporarily halted the use of this type of drone pending the completion of an initial investigation, which will include a technical review.
