Two Israeli Reservists Killed in Gaza Drone Incident
The Israeli military on Friday morning confirmed the deaths of two reservist soldiers, Staff Sergeant Nadav Kali, 24, from Har Halutz, and Staff Sergeant Ofek Moalem, 23, from Jerusalem. Both were killed in operational activity in northern Gaza when a military drone crashed and exploded within their position. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon.
Kali and Moalem, who served in the 7007th Battalion of the 16th Brigade, were operating a drone as part of a mission. The first flight was successful, but during a second attempt, the drone crashed inside their outpost for reasons yet to be determined. The soldiers approached the crashed drone, and it subsequently exploded, according to initial reports.
Both soldiers were evacuated to Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon, where their deaths were pronounced. Their families have been notified, and the circumstances of the incident are under investigation. The military stated that the drone was standard issue and was operating on an approved mission. As a precautionary measure, the IDF has temporarily halted the use of all drones pending the completion of an initial investigation.
