Two Reserve Soldiers Killed in Gaza Drone Incident
The IDF confirmed Friday morning that two reserve soldiers, Staff Sergeant Nadav Kali, 24, from Har Halutz, and Staff Sergeant Ofek Moalem, 23, from Jerusalem, were killed in operational activity in northern Gaza. The incident occurred Thursday afternoon when a military drone crashed inside their outpost and subsequently exploded as the soldiers approached it. Both soldiers were evacuated to Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon, where their deaths were pronounced. Their families have been notified, and the circumstances of the event are under investigation.
The soldiers, who served as a sergeant and a tank commander in the 7007th Battalion of the 16th Brigade, were operating a drone as part of a mission. While the first flight was successful, the drone crashed on its second deployment for reasons yet to be determined. Initial investigations suggest the drone was standard issue and operating on an approved mission. The IDF has temporarily halted the use of drones pending the completion of an initial inquiry into the incident.
