Two Israeli Reservists Killed in Gaza Drone Incident
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Friday, September 25, the deaths of two reservists in the Gaza Strip. The soldiers were identified as Sergeant Major Ofek Mualem, 23, from Jerusalem, and Sergeant Major Nadav Kali, 25, from the settlement of Har Halutz. Both were combatants in the 7007th Battalion of the 16th Brigade and fell in the northern Gaza Strip.
According to an initial investigation, the soldiers died from the explosion of a drone that likely malfunctioned. The precise cause is under investigation by the IDF. The incident occurred near Beit Hanoun, in northern Gaza, where the soldiers were operating drones for operational purposes. After a successful launch of one drone, a second drone reportedly failed to gain altitude and crashed directly onto their position, exploding and killing them instantly.
The IDF has ordered a halt to the use of this specific drone model pending the completion of the investigation. Since October 7, 2023, a total of 970 IDF soldiers have been killed.
