Infant Dies in Accidental Suffocation Incident in Acre

A two-week-old infant has died in Acre after reportedly being accidentally crushed by his parents while sleeping. Emergency services were called to the family's home on Thursday morning after the baby was found unresponsive. Paramedics and United Hatzalah volunteers performed extensive resuscitation efforts at the scene before transporting the infant in critical condition to the Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya. Doctors at the hospital were ultimately forced to pronounce the baby's death.

Initial suspicions suggest the infant was sleeping in the same bed as his parents and was unintentionally crushed during the night. However, authorities are still investigating the exact circumstances surrounding the tragic event. The incident began with a report to Magen David Adom at 8:37 AM, leading to the dispatch of medical teams who found the infant without pulse or breathing.

"This is a very difficult incident," said Dr. Omri Gurga, a volunteer doctor with Magen David Adom, and Salem Harika, a paramedic. "We were led to the toddler who lay unconscious, without pulse or breathing. We quickly began resuscitation efforts, including chest compressions, artificial respiration, and administering medication, and urgently evacuated him to the trauma room at the hospital while continuing advanced resuscitation efforts."

United Hatzalah first responder Maimon Belisha stated, "When I arrived at the scene, the toddler was without pulse or breathing. I performed resuscitation efforts until the arrival of an intensive care unit, which evacuated him to the Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya while continuing resuscitation efforts, in critical condition."

The infant's death was confirmed at the hospital, where resuscitation efforts continued during transport. The precise cause of death remains under investigation.
