Israeli Ambassador's Son Critically Injured in Terror Attack Undergoes Brain Surgery

Neriah Laiter, son of Israeli Ambassador to the US Yehiel Laiter, remains in very serious condition following a terror attack at a checkpoint on Route 443. He underwent complex, hours-long brain surgery on Wednesday, with doctors at Shaare Zedek Medical Center stating his life is in danger. Surgical and intensive care teams are providing life-saving treatment, while social workers support the family.

Ambassador Laiter arrived in Israel on Thursday morning and immediately went to the hospital. Neriah, a reservist and resident of Havat Yair in the Samaria region, was struck by a vehicle driven by a terrorist at a checkpoint. This incident follows a previous tragedy for the family, as Neriah's brother, Major (res.) Moshe Yedidiah Laiter, was killed in Gaza in November 2023.

Neriah's mother, Chani, spoke to Galei Tzahal radio, describing the shock of learning about her son's injury. "You can't get used to it. We are still in shock," she said, recounting her daughter-in-law's initial fear it was a bomb. She also shared how her eldest son, 11, learned about the incident from her after friends had been with the children overnight.

Chani spoke of her late son Moshe's role in supporting the family after his death, calling him "amazing" and a source of strength. Despite the ongoing crisis, the family received joyous news with the birth of a granddaughter to one of the daughters on Thursday. The family is now awaiting updates from the hospital and praying for Neriah's recovery.
