Son of Israeli Ambassador to US Critically Injured in West Bank Terror Attack

Neriah Leiter, the son of Israel's Ambassador to the United States, Dr. Michael Leiter, is in critical condition and his life is in danger following a vehicular attack at the Mitzpe Maccabim junction on Route 443. Leiter, a reservist soldier, underwent hours of complex brain surgery at Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem. Medical teams are continuing to provide life-saving treatment, with social workers supporting his family.

Ambassador Leiter is returning to Israel from New York. He expressed gratitude to the IDF and the medical staff, stating, "Neriah needs a miracle" and emphasizing the power of prayer and unity. Neriah Leiter continued his reserve duty after losing his older brother, Moshe Yedidiah Leiter, who was killed in Gaza approximately three years ago. Since October 7th, Neriah has served hundreds of days in reserve duty on various fronts.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the Leiter family at Shaare Zedek before departing for the United States and urged the public to pray for Neriah's recovery. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, Interior Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, and other officials have all offered prayers and support to the family.

Head of the Samaria Regional Council Yossi Dagan called for decisive action against terrorism and a restoration of deterrence. President Isaac Herzog also sent his regards, noting Neriah's bravery and the family's profound loss. Head of the Binyamin Regional Council and Chairman of the Yesha Council Israel Gantz, who visited Leiter at the hospital, called on the government to act decisively against Palestinian terrorism, including clearing villages from which attackers have emerged.
