Son of Israeli Ambassador to US Critically Wounded in West Bank Terror Attack
The severely injured victim of a terror attack near the Maccabim checkpoint on Wednesday is Neriah Laiter, the son of Israel's Ambassador to the United States, Yechiel Laiter. Neriah, a reservist soldier, sustained a severe head injury after being struck by a vehicle driven by the attacker. He was evacuated unconscious to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, sedated and on a respirator.
The attacker, identified as Mahmoud Muhammad Mahmoud Suleiman, 29, from Beit Ur al-Tahta, was killed by security forces at the scene. Initial investigations suggest the assailant drove his vehicle towards a police car, hitting Laiter in the process.
Family members have requested prayers for Neriah's recovery, specifically asking the public to recite Psalms for "Neriah Dov ben Hannah." The family resides in the settlement of Ali in the West Bank.
Defense Minister Israel Katz condemned the attack, wishing Neriah a swift recovery and commending the forces who neutralized the terrorist. He vowed that "we will not allow terror to raise its head." Samaria Regional Council head Yossi Dagan also offered prayers for the victim and his family, calling for strong action against terrorism to restore deterrence.
