Son of Israeli Ambassador to US Critically Injured in West Bank Vehicle Attack

Neria Leiter, the son of Israel's Ambassador to the United States, Yehiel Leiter, was critically injured on September 23rd when a vehicle rammed into him at a checkpoint near the Maccabim Junction along Route 443 in the West Bank. Police reported that the attacker drove a vehicle towards a police car at the checkpoint and struck the soldier who was standing nearby. Soldiers on site returned fire and killed the assailant. Neria Leiter, a reservist in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), was transported to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem in serious condition. Ambassador Leiter expressed gratitude to the medical staff treating his son, stating that the family "needs a miracle." This incident follows the death of Neria's older brother, Major Moshe Yedidya Leiter, who was killed in Gaza in November 2023 along with three other reservists. Moshe Yedidya Leiter, a father of six, was studying to become a doctor. According to the ambassador, Neria continued his reserve service after his brother's death, serving on various fronts for hundreds of days since October 7, 2023.
