Netherlands Reverses Eurovision Boycott Over Israel's Participation
The Netherlands has decided to end its boycott of the Eurovision Song Contest and will participate in the 2027 competition, reversing a previous decision to withdraw due to Israel's inclusion. The Dutch public broadcaster NPO announced the change following discussions with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).
NPO acknowledged the mixed reactions to the country's participation but expressed hope that Eurovision can once again serve as a unifying event amidst geopolitical instability, wars, and political polarization. The broadcaster also cited changes in the contest's rules and voting procedures implemented by the EBU, including new requirements for hosting and measures to enhance voting transparency.
In 2026, the Netherlands, along with Spain, Slovenia, Iceland, and Ireland, had announced a boycott in protest of Israel's participation. Ireland has confirmed it will continue its boycott in 2027, while Spain, Slovenia, and Iceland have yet to make a final decision.
