Netherlands to Participate in Eurovision 2027 After Boycott Over Israel
The Netherlands will participate in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027, reversing a boycott decision made by broadcaster AVROTROS due to Israel's participation. The Dutch publication RTL reported on September 23 that the national public broadcasting authority, NPO, has decided to send a representative to the contest next year. In 2026, the Netherlands, along with Ireland, Spain, Iceland, and Slovenia, boycotted Eurovision after the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) permitted Israel's entry. AVROTROS had previously announced in August its intention to continue the boycott in 2027, stating the contest had lost its neutral character. The decision to override AVROTROS's stance and participate in 2027 was made by NPO, the central coordinating body for Dutch public broadcasters. Eurovision 2027 is scheduled to take place in Burgas, Bulgaria, with semifinals on May 11 and 13, and the final on May 15.
