Israeli Father Dies in Slovenia While Saving Son From Fall
An Israeli man, Gil Hillel, 44, died in Slovenia on Sunday while attempting to rescue his seven-year-old son during a family hike. The tragedy occurred on Yom Kippur as the family was touring the area. The son slipped and fell towards a river, prompting Hillel to jump in after him in a heroic rescue attempt. During the rescue, Hillel sustained fatal injuries and passed away.
The son was rescued with only minor injuries and was airlifted to a hospital for medical treatment. Hillel, a father of three from Kibbutz Yizrael, was an engineer at Medtronic and a graduate of the Technion. His brother described him on social media as a smart, athletic, funny, and devoted family man who was always ready to help, a readiness that ultimately cost him his life.
