Israeli Father Dies Saving Son From Fall in Slovenia

An Israeli father, 44-year-old Gil Glickel from Kibbutz Yizre'el, tragically died in Slovenia while on vacation with his family. During a walk near the Savica waterfall, his seven-year-old son slipped and fell into a ravine. Glickel immediately jumped in to save his son but also fell. The boy survived the fall but sustained serious injuries and is currently hospitalized in Ljubljana.

According to Kranj police, the family was sightseeing when the boy wandered off and his cries were heard. The father's attempt to rescue him resulted in both falling into the Savica River. Rescuers, including drone operators who were training nearby, quickly reached the scene. They descended approximately 60 meters to the river, provided aid to the boy, and prepared him for evacuation by a police helicopter to Ljubljana. Glickel's body was recovered from the steep slope using ropes.

Glickel, an engineer who graduated from the Technion, worked for Maytronics. He and his wife, a native of Kibbutz Yizre'el, moved there after their marriage and had three children. The kibbutz expressed deep sorrow over the loss, stating the community is supporting the grieving family.

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed awareness of the incident and stated that the department for Israelis abroad and local diplomats are providing assistance to the family, including arrangements for the repatriation of Glickel's body. Funeral details are pending.
