Illegal Immigrant Steals Car, Kills Cyclist in Tel Aviv Escape
Police in the Yarkon district arrested a 24-year-old resident of the Nablus district early Thursday morning on suspicion of stealing a vehicle and then fatally striking a cyclist while attempting to flee. The incident occurred near Yonitzman Street in northern Tel Aviv.
The victim, who was riding a bicycle, was hit with great force and evacuated to the hospital in critical condition. Despite extensive resuscitation efforts, doctors were forced to declare him dead due to his severe injuries.
Authorities apprehended the suspect at the scene. A preliminary investigation by the police indicates that the suspect broke into and stole the car before hitting the cyclist. Traffic accident investigators arrived at the scene to collect evidence and determine the exact circumstances of the collision.
During a search of the stolen vehicle, officers discovered a bag containing professional car theft tools, including an ignition computer, a hammer, and glass-breaking implements. The suspect, who lacked permits to be in Israel, was taken for further questioning by the police.
