Suspected Car Thief Kills Cyclist in Tel Aviv During Escape
A 24-year-old Palestinian man from the Nablus area, suspected of being an illegal resident, was arrested Thursday morning in Tel Aviv on suspicion of stealing a vehicle and then fatally striking a cyclist while attempting to flee.
The incident occurred near Yonitzman Street, where the suspect allegedly hit the cyclist, a man in his 50s from Ramat HaSharon, with the stolen car. Emergency services responded, providing medical treatment and transporting the cyclist to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police from the Tel Aviv North station arrived at the scene and apprehended the suspect.
Traffic investigators are examining the circumstances of the incident to reconstruct the events of the escape. A search of the stolen vehicle reportedly uncovered a bag containing equipment believed to be used for car theft, including an ignition computer, a hammer, and tools for breaking glass.
The suspect sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment. He has been transferred for interrogation as police continue to investigate the incident and the items found in the car.
