Three Indicted for Extortion, Threatening Homeowners with 300,000 Shekel Demand
Israeli police have filed an indictment against three men from northern Israel, two from Umm al-Fahm and one from Kafr Qara, for extorting homeowners and demanding 300,000 shekels under threat. The incident began on August 8, 2026, when police received a report from a victim stating that individuals had arrived at his home to collect "khawa" (protection money), with one of them carrying a handgun.
Northern District police forces responded immediately and initiated an investigation. According to police, the investigation revealed that the three suspects arrived at the victim's home, threatened those inside, and demanded the payment. To instill fear, they invoked the name of a criminal gang and threatened the victims' lives, with one reportedly saying, "You will not leave this house, I will fill you with bags." The suspects fled the scene but were apprehended by police shortly thereafter.
The Northern District Public Prosecution has filed an indictment against the three men, aged 36, 24, and 39, at the Nazareth-Nof HaGalil Magistrate's Court.
