Extortion Ring Arrested After Threatening Family Over Land Dispute

Three men, aged 32, 36, and 50, from Nazareth and Iksal in northern Israel, are facing charges of extortion for demanding one million shekels. The dramatic case began when a bureaucratic error led to a plot of land in Iksal being registered in the wrong person's name. The individual who mistakenly received the land then allegedly hired a local crime family to extort compensation from the rightful owner.

According to the investigation, the suspects pressured the victim to attend a "Shura meeting" (a council or meeting). When the victim refused to comply with their demands, the suspects began throwing grenades at his home and the homes of his family members, accompanied by explicit threats to their lives.

A leaked recording from the extortion calls reveals one suspect chillingly threatening the victim: "If you don't pay, you will lose one, two, three, and you will still pay two million instead of one million. You have until tomorrow afternoon... You will be the first to be harmed, your children first, and then you."

Following a police report on August 13, officers from the Northern District launched an investigation using advanced technological means, leading to the arrest of the three suspects. The Northern District Prosecutor's Office has decided to indict the men.

The police stated that officers continue to actively combat crime and extortion offenses, utilizing all available tools and technologies to ensure justice is served and to maintain order and security for residents in the region.
