Three Arrested for Extorting 300,000 Shekels in Northern Israel
Israeli police have filed charges against three individuals from northern Israel, two from Umm al-Fahm and one from Kafr Qara, for extorting a family and demanding 300,000 shekels under threat. The incident began on August 8, 2026, when one of the victims reported to the police that individuals had arrived at his home to collect "khawa," with one of them carrying a handgun. Northern District police responded immediately, initiating an investigation.
According to the police, the investigation revealed that the three suspects arrived at the victim's home, threatened those present, and demanded the payment. To instill fear, they invoked the name of a criminal gang and threatened the victims' lives, stating, "You will not leave this house, I will fill you with bags." The suspects then fled the scene but were apprehended by police shortly thereafter.
The Northern District Public Prosecution has filed an indictment against the three suspects, aged 36, 24, and 39, at the Nazareth-Nof HaGalil Magistrate's Court.
