Three Israelis Charged with Extortion Attempt Using Threats and Firearm

Police in Israel's Northern District have indicted three individuals from the cities of Umm al-Fahm and Kafr Qara (referred to in the article as al-Na'ura) for attempting to extort 300,000 shekels from a victim. The incident occurred on August 8, 2026, when the suspects allegedly arrived at the victim's home, threatened him with a firearm, and demanded the money under duress, using the term 'khawa' which signifies protection money or extortion.

According to a police statement, the victim contacted emergency services reporting that "criminals came to collect the khawa, come quickly, he has a pistol." Responding officers from the Northern District quickly arrived at the scene and initiated a search for the suspects.

The investigation revealed that the three suspects, aged 36, 24, and 39, instilled fear in the victim by invoking the name of a criminal organization and issuing death threats, including "You will not leave the house, I will fill you with bags." Following the confrontation, the suspects fled the location.

Law enforcement conducted an extensive search and apprehended the suspects shortly after the incident. The Northern District Prosecution subsequently filed an indictment against the three men at the Nazareth-Nof HaGalil Magistrate's Court.
