Three Northern Israelis Charged with Extortion Over Land Dispute

Police announced on September 17, 2026, that an indictment will be filed against three residents from northern Israel for demanding one million shekels in "protection money" under threat. The charges stem from a dispute over a piece of land in the town of Iksal.

The investigation began on August 13, 2026, after a complaint was filed by an individual reporting threats against his life and his family's lives, related to the land issue. Police investigations revealed an error in the land registry, where the plot, won by the complainant, was mistakenly registered under another person's name.

Authorities suspect one of the accused enlisted the services of a criminal family, leading to a series of threats against the victim and his relatives. These threats reportedly included the throwing of hand grenades at their homes. The suspects allegedly demanded compensation from the victim for the land and invited him to a meeting to settle the amount.

When the victim refused to comply with their demands, he received further threats against his life and his family's. Police arrested three suspects, aged 32, 36, and 50, from Iksal and Nazareth within a short period, utilizing technological surveillance methods.

An indictment is expected to be filed against the three individuals at the Nazareth-Nof HaGalil Magistrate's Court by the Northern District Public Prosecution.
