Security Forces Foil Large Arms Smuggling Attempt at Jordan Border
Israeli security forces thwarted a significant arms smuggling attempt along the Jordan border overnight between Thursday and Friday, seizing approximately 40 weapons and arresting two suspects. The suspects, identified as Jericho residents in their 50s, were apprehended as they attempted to bring the weapons into Israeli territory.
The operation began when Israeli military observers detected suspicious activity in the eastern border region, indicating a potential smuggling operation. In response, forces from the Jordan Valley Brigade, officers from the Judea and Samaria District's Jordan Border Unit, and combatants from the Judea and Samaria Border Police established an ambush in the area.
During the operation, the two suspects were detained. More than 30 handguns and two M-16 rifles were confiscated. The suspects and the seized weaponry were transferred to the Judea and Samaria District's Central Unit of the police for further investigation.
