Israeli Forces Foil Large Arms Smuggling Attempt on Jordan Border
The IDF said Friday that a focused operation by forces from the Jordan Valley and Valleys Brigade, the Border Police in Judea and Samaria, and police from the Shai District stopped the smuggling of dozens of weapons into Israel along the eastern border. In recent days, security forces identified signs pointing to an imminent arms transfer in the border area.
Troops from the Jordan Valley’s Lavi Battalion, the Maroul unit, Border Police Mityan unit, and Shai District border police set ambushes and carried out extensive searches. During the operation, they found 23 Glock pistols, three Kalashnikov-type weapons, one M-16 rifle, and additional weapons.
A suspect in his 20s, a resident of Bethlehem, was arrested during the operation. The suspect and the seized weapons were transferred to the Central Unit of the Shai District for investigation.
Security forces said they continue to fight weapons smuggling that could reach terrorists and criminals, and remain deployed along the eastern border to protect Israeli civilians.
