Israeli Security Forces Foil Major Arms Smuggling Attempt at Eastern Border

Israeli security forces thwarted a significant arms smuggling attempt along the eastern border, apprehending two suspects and seizing a substantial cache of weapons. The operation, conducted by a joint force including the Jordan Valley Border Police, the Jordan Valley Brigade, and the 'Mar'ul' unit, resulted in the arrest of two Jericho residents in their 50s.

During the operation, authorities confiscated 34 handguns and two M-16 rifles, which were intended for smuggling into Israeli territory. The operation was part of ongoing efforts to prevent weapon smuggling across the eastern border, particularly in anticipation of upcoming holidays, and to combat criminal and security-related activities.

The security forces acted on intelligence indicating planned arms smuggling activity near the Jordan border. They set up ambushes using advanced technological means, leading to the successful apprehension of the suspects and the seizure of the weapons. The arrested individuals were transferred for further investigation by the central unit of the Judea and Samaria District.

Security officials emphasized that this operation is part of a continuous effort involving close cooperation between police, Border Police, and IDF units. The goal is to prevent weapons from reaching Israel and to disrupt the operations of smuggling networks active in the region. Several other smuggling attempts have been foiled in the eastern border area in recent weeks.
