Dozens of Weapons Seized in Jordan Border Smuggling Attempt; Two Arrested

Israeli security forces thwarted an attempt to smuggle dozens of weapons across the eastern border during an overnight operation in the Jordan Valley. Two Arab men, residents of Jericho in their 50s, were arrested with 34 pistols and two M-16 rifles in their possession. The operation was launched following intelligence indicating preparations for a weapons smuggling operation from the Jordan border area.

In response to the alert, officers from the Jordan Valley unit of the Central District, counter-terrorism forces from the West Bank, the Jordan Valley Brigade, and the "Mar'ul" unit were deployed. Forces set up ambushes at several locations and utilized specialized technological equipment to detect and intercept the suspects in real-time.

During the operation, the two suspects were located, apprehended, and searched. A large cache of weapons, including dozens of pistols and two M-16 rifles, was discovered and seized for further investigation. The arrested men were transferred to the Central District for questioning regarding the intended destination of the weapons, the identities of those behind the smuggling attempt, and any other potential accomplices.

Security officials emphasized their ongoing efforts to combat weapons smuggling across the eastern border, citing concerns that smuggled arms could fall into the hands of terrorists or criminals and be used for attacks or serious offenses. The operation coincided with heightened security measures and operational activities in anticipation of upcoming holidays, aimed at mitigating security threats and preventing the illicit transfer of weapons across the country's borders.
