Naval Commandos Join Search for Missing Diver Off Haifa Coast
Extensive search operations are underway off Students Beach in Haifa for a diver who entered the water and has not resurfaced. The Israeli Police Commissioner, Danny Levi, visited the search site on Friday, and the elite naval commando unit, Shayetet 13, has joined the efforts. The diver went into the water Thursday afternoon for a free-diving session without equipment, accompanied by a family member on a kayak. When the diver failed to return to the surface for an extended period, rescue forces were alerted.
The search has involved a helicopter, drones, boats, jet skis, motorcycles, mounted police, and foot patrols along the coastline. This incident follows a similar tragedy in late August, where a seven-year-old boy drowned in an artificial lake in Tel Aviv's "Drom" Park after entering the water with his brother. Despite rescue efforts and transport to Ichilov Hospital, his death was confirmed. Another recent drowning involved a 12-year-old boy who died after his boat capsized in the Jordan River.
