Naval Commandos Join Search for Missing Diver Off Haifa Coast
Elite naval commandos from Shayetet 13 and the Yaltam underwater search unit have joined extensive efforts to locate a young man in his 20s who has been missing since Thursday afternoon off the coast of Haifa. The young man reportedly went diving at Students Beach, accompanied by a friend on a watercraft, likely a kayak. When the diver did not resurface after a considerable time, his friend reported him missing, triggering a large-scale rescue operation.
Search operations commenced Thursday afternoon and continued through the night, involving the Marine Police, the Lahav unit, and additional rescue forces. The search is being conducted from the air using helicopters and drones, from the sea with boats and jet skis, and along the coastline by ground teams. A police command center was established on Students Beach to coordinate the efforts.
The Israel Police Commissioner, Danni Levy, was present at the police command center on the beach. The search is ongoing, with rescue forces concentrating their efforts in the sea and along the shoreline.
